9 things I’ve stopped doing to live a simpler life

Using social media- For me, cold turkey was easier than cutting back. Anger is a powerful driver, and I just got angry enough at what the technocrats are doing to the world that I couldn’t support them anymore.

Shopping at Amazon, Target, and Walmart- See above about anger. If I can’t get something anywhere else, I probably don’t need it. I’d rather live without than support a billionaire. (Don’t come at me in the comments- yes, I’m privileged to have options. Not everyone has those options and I’m aware of it. If Walmart is your only grocery store, go there and don’t feel bad about it. Do what it takes to provide for your family).

Shopping at Goodwill- I used to go shopping at Goodwill as a hobby. Now I only go if there is something specific I’m looking for.

Meal planning in advance- I’m the worst about planning and then not wanting to eat what I planned. I make a loose plan for the week and shift as needed, but I don’t try to plan out further than that.

Buying books- When I started writing this article, I was buying zero books, just using the library. Then I discovered an amazing local-ish library where you can buy books for a donation, and I’m back on my bullshit. So, there’s that. That said, I go there very rarely and make a point to try to read through my pile before I go get more. I also utilize my local library heavily.

Eating out when I don’t feel like cooking- I try to keep some easy things in the freezer so if I don’t want to cook we don’t blow a ton of money eating out. I’ve also learned to delegate to the rest of the fam rather than delegate to a restaurant. Pro tip: If you really need to, you can go to the prepared food section of your local grocery store and let everyone pick a box or sandwich for a lot cheaper than eating out.

Eating whole meals at restaurants- I bring a bag or box and split my meals in half before I even start eating them.

Wearing makeup- See this post

Wearing plastic- If it’s not made of natural fibers, I don’t wear it. Polyester makes me sweaty and sticky. This has greatly simplified my shopping, because no matter how cute something is, if it’s made of plastic, it’s an immediate no.

Tell me, what are some things you have stopped doing in order to live a simpler life?
