Prepping for Fantasy Nerds and the Highly Anxious
We can all use a little levity, ESPECIALLY for serious topics.
In the world of preparedness, I fall somewhere on the spectrum between “The sky is falling” and “La la la sticks fingers in ears everything is fine!” I would call myself a recovering prepper. I used to be super into this stuff, so I’ve done a ton of research and practice, but I’ve reached the point where I don’t want to live in fear, so I don’t go on prepper sites anymore (also, the conservativism… shudders). I’m aiming for practical preparedness that will get me through potential actual events without panic.
If you also cannot stand those sites but want to be prepared, here is a fantasy mini-guide to preparedness to make things fun, light, and practical:
Note your exits.
Everywhere you go, ask yourself, if an evil wizard walked into this tavern looking for me, where could I escape?
Bug-out bags
If Gandalf showed up at your door for an adventure, would you be ready to leave in 5 minutes or less? You don’t need a bunch of prepper supplies. You just need what you would need for a 3-day hobbit-style adventure thrown in a backpack and stored somewhere easy to access.
Your home 72 hour kit
If this was a high storm and you couldn’t leave, could you shelter in place for 72 hours? What comforting things would you want to sustain and entertain you and your fellow bridgemen?
